Blue Jays' Vlad Guerrero Jr. emulates his father as the cover athlete for 'MLB The Show 24.'
Mark another notable achievement in the father-son legacy of Vladimir Guerrero Jr. The Toronto Blue Jays' first baseman has been chosen as the cover athlete for "MLB The Show 24," following in the footsteps of his father, who was featured on the cover of "MLB 2006" before the franchise underwent a rebrand with Sony's San Diego Studio taking over development.
Expressing his joy in English, Guerrero Jr. remarked, "I'm so happy. My dad on the cover and now seeing me (on it). It's unbelievable. I grew up playing video games. It's a dream come true. Everyone wants to be the cover (athlete)." The anticipated release of the game is scheduled for March 19, available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox X/S, and Xbox One consoles.
Last season, the 24-year-old Guerrero achieved a batting average of .264, hitting 26 home runs and contributing 94 RBIs. As he embarks on his sixth season in the MLB, he boasts a career batting average of .279, along with 130 home runs and 404 RBIs.
Guerrero expresses contentment with his representation in the game, noting satisfaction with the assigned grades for power, contact, and other attributes. Previously featured as the Canadian cover athlete for the 2020 edition of the now-discontinued "RBI Baseball" video game, Guerrero reveals a preference for sports games over first-person shooters.
He appreciates the aesthetics and authenticity of the 'MLB The Show' franchise, highlighting its potential to aid in off-field preparation, such as familiarizing himself with opposing pitchers' repertoire.
The game serves as a means for Guerrero to unwind, particularly after challenging days on the field. He values the moments spent playing with friends and family, finding it a relaxing and enjoyable activity that helps him prepare for the next day.
Guerrero occasionally brings a video game console with him on road trips, depending on the circumstances. He emphasizes the importance of enjoying these moments as a way to calm down and reset, irrespective of the challenges faced in real-life baseball.
As for the salary arbitration hearings, Guerrero is among the 18 players scheduled, seeking $19.9 million while the Blue Jays have offered $18.05 million.
