Dev Patel, an Oscar-nominated actor, is set to make his directorial debut with the action-packed revenge story "Monkey Man," scheduled for a theatrical release on April 5 by Universal Pictures. Produced by Jordan Peele's Monkeypaw Productions, the movie features Patel as Kid, an anonymous young man surviving in an underground fight club, wearing a gorilla mask and enduring beatings for money. Inspired by the Hindu deity Hanuman, the film follows Kid's journey of revenge against the city's sinister elite who caused his childhood trauma.

The trailer for "Monkey Man" features intense action reminiscent of a "John Wick" film. Dev Patel's character embarks on a vengeful journey, engaging in brutal confrontations involving shooting, stabbing, and beating his way through adversaries. In one scene, he ruthlessly stabs a man through the neck while holding a knife between his teeth.

Patel serves as the director of "Monkey Man," based on his original story and screenplay co-written with Paul Angunawela and John Collee. Initially slated for Netflix, the film is now set for theatrical release under Monkeypaw's deal with Universal.

The cast includes Sharlto Copley, Sobhita Dhulipala, Pitobash, Vipin Sharma, Ashwini Kalsekar, Adithi Kalkunte, Sikandar Kher, and Makarand Deshpande.
