The Milwaukee Brewers have reportedly traded the former Cy Young-winning pitcher Corbin Burnes to the Baltimore Orioles, as per multiple reports.
Milwaukee is set to receive prospect shortstop Joey Ortiz and pitcher D.L. Hall in exchange for Corbin Burnes, according to information from ESPN's Jeff Passan.
Corbin Burnes, aged 29, started 32 games for the Brewers in the last season, holding a 3.39 earned-run average with 200 strikeouts in 193.2 innings pitched.
As the right-handed pitcher, he clinched the National League Cy Young award for the top pitcher in 2021, amassing 234 strikeouts in 167.0 innings and maintaining a league-leading 2.43 ERA.
Burnes is set to become a free agent after the 2024 season. The Brewers drafted him in the fourth round of the 2016 MLB June Amateur Draft, and he made his debut in 2018, initially as a bullpen pitcher with a perfect 7-0 record.
Earning a permanent spot in the starting rotation in 2021, Burnes has consistently ranked in the top 10 for Cy Young voting, securing this position every season from 2020 through 2023.
In his six professional seasons, the Bakersfield, California native has amassed a 3.26 ERA with 870 strikeouts in 709.1 innings pitched over 167 career MLB games.
Joey Ortiz, aged 25, was drafted by the Orioles in the fourth round of the 2019 draft. In 15 games last season, he recorded a .212 batting average with four RBIs. The 5-foot-9 infielder also played 88 games with Triple-A Norfolk in 2023, boasting a .321 batting average with nine home runs and 58 RBIs.
D.L. Hall, aged 25, was selected 21st overall by the Orioles in the 2017 draft. Appearing in 18 games with the Orioles last season, he achieved a 3-0 record with a 3.26 earned-run average and 1.190 WHIP.
