A win propels the Golden Tigers into the championship game once more against State.

Last year, Hollidaysburg reached the championship game of the Laurel Highlands Mountain Hockey League held at Johnstown’s First Summit Bank Arena at the Cambria County War Memorial but suffered a 5-2 defeat against State College. The memory of that loss has served as motivation for this year's senior-heavy Hollidaysburg team, which has remained intensely focused on their goal. With an unblemished 18-0 regular-season record, top-seeded Hollidaysburg secured a spot in the championship game after defeating fourth-seeded Richland 3-0 in a semifinal matchup at the Pegula Ice Arena on Thursday night.

Thursday's victory has placed Hollidaysburg in a favorable position once again, affording them the opportunity to compete for the league championship. Their next challenge awaits in the form of a title-game rematch against the third-seeded State College team, scheduled for Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. at the War Memorial. State College secured their spot in the final by securing a hard-fought 6-5 victory over second-seeded Forest Hills in the other semifinal match at Pegula.

Senior goaltender Tyler Duey showcased his prowess with a remarkable 21-save shutout performance for Hollidaysburg. Meanwhile, goals from seniors Kaden Kirkham and Seth Burger, supplemented by another from junior Isaac Miller, propelled the team's season record to an unblemished 19-0.

Coach Cory Reed emphasized that winning the league title has been the top priority for the Golden Tigers throughout the season, utilizing last year's loss as a source of motivation. Duey echoed this sentiment, expressing excitement about the team's return to the championship game and highlighting a shift in perspective compared to last year.

Kirkham kickstarted the scoring in Thursday's game with a well-placed backhand shot from the side of the net, followed swiftly by Miller extending the lead with a precise wrist shot. Burger further solidified Hollidaysburg's advantage with a goal in the second period.

Despite Richland's goaltender Alexa Ladika's valiant efforts, who managed to thwart 40 of the 43 shots fired her way, Hollidaysburg's methodical gameplay and resolute defensive performance ultimately secured the win. The game saw some tense moments, including penalties and a late-game scrum, but Hollidaysburg maintained their composure and executed their game plan effectively.

With a focus on applying pressure through aggressive forechecking, Hollidaysburg showcased disciplined play to earn their spot in the league championship final. As they gear up for the title clash, the Golden Tigers are poised to leave no stone unturned in their quest for league glory.
