A massive Georgia Bulldogs lineman possesses the capability to address the New Orleans Saints' most significant concern in the NFL Draft.

Despite lacking experience, this offensive lineman from Georgia possesses all the necessary skills to become a top-tier blocker.

In recent years, the University of Georgia football program has consistently produced early draft picks for the NFL. Despite narrowly missing out on a third consecutive national championship last season, the Bulldogs have only a handful of players projected to draw significant attention early in the 2024 NFL Draft.

One of these standout prospects fills a position that the New Orleans Saints desperately need to address. The Saints made a much-needed adjustment at offensive coordinator during the offseason, appointing Klint Kubiak and adding several new offensive assistants to rejuvenate their stagnant offense. Kubiak's arrival is anticipated to breathe new life into the team's struggling attack, particularly with the addition of some promising weapons.

One significant challenge for Kubiak will be revamping an offensive line that performed poorly last season. This Bulldog lineman is among a select group of linemen whom the Saints may consider targeting early in the draft.

The Bulldogs secured the commitment of Amarius Mims, a five-star recruit hailing from Bleckley County High School in Georgia, after a successful recruiting battle. Mims saw limited action during his freshman year in 2021, as Georgia boasted a formidable team that clinched its first national title in 41 years.

During the 2022 season, Mims primarily served as a reserve lineman for the Bulldogs, who were once again loaded with talent en route to securing a second consecutive championship. However, he played a crucial role down the stretch, stepping in as an injury replacement at right tackle during the semifinal and championship games. Despite being the starting right tackle last season, Mims only appeared in seven games due to recovering from ankle surgery.

With his towering stature, Mims possesses unexpected athleticism for his size. While he predominantly played as a right tackle throughout his collegiate career, he demonstrates the agility and footwork required to potentially transition to the left side.

Mims demonstrates remarkable balance and leverage during his reps, exhibiting natural technique that surpasses the average and is poised to develop further with more experience. His exceptional hand placement and upper body strength enable him to often overpower opposing defenders.

Already displaying the attributes of a top-tier pass protector, Mims adeptly mirrors defenders and utilizes his imposing stature as an obstacle for rushers. His exceptional agility enables him to swiftly recover if caught off guard. Additionally, he exhibits quick responsiveness to blitzes, stunts, and assists teammates with double-teams.

Mims' extreme lack of experience raises significant concerns. With only eight collegiate starts to his name, he may encounter challenges, particularly when facing complex defensive schemes. This inexperience could pose a substantial obstacle early in his career.

In terms of run blocking, Mims needs to work on sustaining his blocks more consistently. At times, he tends to play too high, which limits his ability to generate drive off the line of scrimmage. Additionally, he could improve his efficiency in taking angles when moving to the second level of the defense, as well as when pulling or serving as a lead blocker on screens.

Amarius Mims is among the 7-10 tackles who could potentially secure an early starting role in the NFL. While players like Joe Alt (Notre Dame), Olu Fashanu (Penn State), and Taliese Fuaga (Oregon State) are likely to be the first three tackles selected, Mims could follow closely behind, possibly as a first-round pick and potentially as early as the middle of the opening round.

Despite his relative lack of experience, Mims is viewed as having considerable upside at the position. For the New Orleans Saints, who face significant concerns at both tackle positions, Mims' upside and immediate proficiency as a pass blocker may outweigh his limited starting experience.
