Dave Bautista and Eric Nam are set to lead the voice cast for an upcoming animated film based on "Avatar: The Last Airbender" at Paramount and Nickelodeon.

Dave Bautista and Eric Nam are slated to lead the voice cast for the upcoming "Avatar: The Last Airbender" movie, currently titled "Aang: The Last Airbender," which is in development at Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Studios. The announcement was made during Paramount's presentation at CinemaCon.

In addition to Bautista and Nam, the voice cast includes Dionne Quan, Jessica Matten, and Roman Zaragoza. Specific plot details for the film are being kept under wraps, but Bautista is set to voice a villain character. The new "Avatar" animated film is scheduled for release on October 10, 2025, by Paramount.

In June 2022, the studios revealed that they were working on three standalone "Avatar" animated films, with the 2025 film being the first to receive a release date. Lauren Montgomery, who contributed to the original "Avatar: The Last Airbender" series, is directing the project. The original series creators, Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, are serving as executive producers alongside Eric Coleman, while William Mata is co-directing.

The original animated "Avatar" series aired on Nickelodeon from 2005 to 2008, followed by "The Legend of Korra," which continued the story from 2012 to 2014. Both series center around the adventures of the Avatar, a mystical figure capable of mastering all four natural elements: air, water, earth, and fire. The protagonist of the original series, Avatar Aang, embarks on a journey to learn and master these elements in order to defeat the nefarious Fire Nation, alongside his companions Katara, Sokka, and Toph. Earlier this year, Netflix released a live-action adaptation of the series.

At the same CinemaCon presentation, Paramount unveiled the voice cast for Rihanna's upcoming animated "Smurfs" movie. Rihanna will voice the character of Smurfette and contribute original music to the film. She will be joined by an ensemble cast including Nick Offerman, Natasha Lyonne, JP Karliak, Daniel Levy, Amy Sedaris, Nick Kroll, James Corden, Octavia Spencer, Hannah Waddingham, Sandra Oh, Alex Winter, Billie Lourd, Xolo Maridueña, Kurt Russell, and John Goodman. "The Smurfs" movie is slated for release on February 15, 2025.

Additionally, Paramount announced that the original voice cast of "SpongeBob SquarePants" will return for "The SpongeBob Movie: Search for Sequarepants," set to hit theaters on December 19, 2025. The cast includes Tom Kenny as SpongeBob SquarePants, Clancy Brown as Mr. Krabs, Rodger Bumpass as Squidward, Bill Fagerbakke as Patrick, Carolyn Lawrence as Sandy, and Mr. Lawrence as Plankton.
